Updating my resume is the only thing I dread equally to writing cover letters. I have looked at my resume so many times it has become one giant blob of dread. Anyway, it is a task we should all do and do frequently. If you keep your resume up-to-date, you will have few edits to make when applying for a job, internship, or other opportunity. I also recommend taking a critical eye to your resume at least a couple times per year to pick out any mistakes or format fallacies. Here are some common mistakes that can decrease your job chances or lead to your resume ending up in a shredder.

Thanks for this article. I just used the template you provided to update my own resume, with a few adjustments (like moving the education to the bottom and adding a section for technical skills) that are appropriate to my industry.
I am just starting another job search so when updating my resume I put it in this format and it worked very well. I changed the header a little just to make it smaller, but that was about it. My girlfriend saw it and thought it was so great she asked if I could help convert her resume. Her resume used to be 10pt font/Arial Narrow/.25″ margins completely filled with text so we were not sure if it would fit. Surprisingly it fits much better and provides much more white space on the page.“I just want to say I am extremely happy with Write That Right. I shopped around looking for someone to update my resume. I felt the most comfortable with Write That Right. Their promptness and professionalism was amazing. I feel confident with my new resume where I am going to get a GREAT JOB. Thanks again.” – Gladys O.
