Sample Orthopedic Nurse Resume - Resume Samples

Orthopedic nurses provide care for patients with musculoskeletal diseases and disorders, such as arthritis, fractures and broken bones, osteoporosis, joint replacements and musculoskeletal birth defects.

Professionals with orthopedic nurse jobs will assist doctors during surgery. They also play an important role in postoperative recovery by administering medication, changing dressings and checking the surgery site to ensure wounds are healing properly. Like most nurses, orthopedic nurses are responsible for assessing patients, maintaining patient charts and monitoring vitals, however, their specialized knowledge makes them experts on neurovascular status monitoring, casting, continuous passive motion therapy and other neuromuscular healing practices.

Candidates considering orthopedic nursing careers should be strong communicators. Not only are they the point of contact for patients, but orthopedic nurses also educate patients and their families on how to manage musculoskeletal diseases and disorders at home.

To qualify for orthopedic nursing jobs, a candidate needs to work as an RN for two years before taking the Orthopaedic Nurse Certification exam to become a Certified Orthopaedic Nurse (ONC).
